When the early April snow storm came in and ruined my plans I figured the only way to get outside would be to leave the mess that Mother Nature made. There was too much snow to go out hiking or kayaking, but it there wasn’t enough to try something like cross country skiing, so instead I felt that fleeing would be the best option.
I took advantage of having family on the South Shore (where there was no snow at all!) and got to take a walk outside on a beautiful day. I wouldn’t suggest driving an hour and a half to go to the Bird Sanctuary in Duxbury, but if you are in the area it’s worth checking out! It has really beautiful views and the loop is not too difficult.
But, when the weather isn’t treating you well, take it as an opportunity to go somewhere else and maybe bring some family along. I had my Aunt Mary (and her black lab, Berry) to accompany me and guide me along the trails. It was a great time for her to tell me stories of what it was like growing up in Duxbury and we got to admire the warm weather together.
It doesn’t have to be Duxbury, and it might not even have to be 1.5 hours away, but it’s a really great experience going outside and appreciating nature with family especially when you are getting down about the crummy weather.
